The best thing to happen to Frankenstein was the public domain.
The novel feels long winded and pretentious. The most interesting elements are the ones we get the least description and detail on. The book is mostly about people sitting around and moping.
I would say that I find the derivative works far more interesting than the original Frankenstein.
