Think about the attitude which Western media has towards Western religions right now and you'll know EXACTLY how this ends. It's a movie that WANTS very hard to make what ultimately prove to be very thin, very tired modern Western philosophical points, but undermines itself by getting superficial-to-outsiders-yet-actually-important details about its protagonists' religion wrong. There's nothing new, insightful or revelatory here -- only a wearyingly-slavish devotion to The Message in which a Western religion cannot be positively represented unless it is watered down to the point of meaninglessness. Religion must be toothless to be valid, it says. Quelle surprise.
