I’ve played Minecraft since the beta released when I was nine. It’s been my comfort game for over a decade, and this movie feels like a slap in the face.
A live-action adaptation? Why? The visuals are awkward at best, disturbing at worst. The writing is hollow and has little to no connection to the spirit of the game. They even perpetuate the tired stereotype that gamers are losers in the “real life” part of the plot. Minecraft was never about a rigid story it was about imagination. This is corporate slop, a shallow attempt to appeal to children. You can make a movie that speaks to kids and stays true to the game and its fans. This is not it.
It’s not just a bad adaptation, it’s a joyless cash grab. Don’t see it. Don’t let it make money. This is my first review because no movie has ever made me so sad about what could have been. Minecraft deserves so much better.
