The writing is some of the best I've seen. Gunplay is no different from New Vegas and the graphics are stylistic and match the game perfectly. But with that said, in the end it's just mediocre at best.
Let me elaborate. The story writing is amazing, but character dialogue gets old really quick as each character follows the same "I work for a corporation, so I sound corporate" trope. This is fine for the first 3 hours so so, but gets really old later on as you realize that each character is created around this idea give or take 2 or 3 others. Whom have been completely removed from this mentality.
A second reason being that, your choices dont actually matter. An example being the first act where you have to reroute power from the emerald vale to the rebels facility or vice versa. The only effect either has is how factions view you (and all this does is raises or lowers vendor prices or opens or closes paths to the next chapter. Making your game easier or harder.). While this works for a few missions. It does not work for the entire game. You can't do anything drastic except kill major characters. Even then it just makes your path to the next chapter that much harder. It has no major effect on the game world and will continue on regardless of who is in it or not.
Late game missions are slow, and not very rewarding. They are story driven, but I found myself not caring about these people or their lives. Because I came to realize that they don't matter. I could kill everyone and I could still finish the game. Nothing I did made a difference.
Tldr: get it on sale, it's a fun little jaunt just dont expect fallout New Vegas.
