The first time I heard Gorecki's Symphony No. 3 I was driving, pulled the car off the side of the road, turned off the engine and just sat, listening, utterly mesmerized. It is a strongly emotional work, at least for me. Listen to the recording of the London Sinfonia conducted by David Zinnman, with Dawn Upshaw, soprano. She has a crystalline voice and interprets the music perfectly.
