Must excellent movie. I am a cochlear implant recipient since 2013. I began losing my hearing in my late 40’s. Hearing aids worked at first but then my hearing began to get worse & I qualified for one implant. I too began to learn ASL as I didn’t know if or when I’d be completely deaf.
It was a game changer having implants though. I could hear birds again, my car turn signal and of course voices. It’s not perfect as the show depicts, noisy environments make hearing voices hard. Excellent acting and it’s true that the deaf community and cochlear implant surgery can be at odds with each other. I often feel I don’t fit well into either camp. But I’m thankful for what I can hear again. Sandee
