Really wanted to like this film, had all the ingredients. Springsteen, racism, hardship, adolescence, traditional Pakistani values against Eighties UK, boy mets girl, and Rob Brydon with a dodgy cockney accent.
I did love that moment when he first heard Springsteen, that emotion, that realisation that someone else says all things you feel at that time, that I loved. I just felt it had more to offer but failed to deliver, but that's just me, I imagine there are many to whom this film will very much resonate, and rightly so.
The cast are well chosen and Kulvinder Ghir is excellent as Javed's Dad. Shame we don't see him in more roles as he always delivers.
