Haygood's work here at first is a crucial read for all central Ohioans but is much much more then that. Although as a Columbus native on of the most critical political elements Will may have underestimated was the impact the Mayor and my father had on the black community in changing the dynamic of the power structure paving the way for minority empowerment. Beyond that the book puts the reader inside the beautiful families brought together by the men and women of great character East High was blessed with experiencing. As only the best authors can do Haygood puts the reader inside the ombiance of the times and the close knit black community void of the drama which the teams and school could thrive in. It is a rare gem into a
window of life as a black community as a whole. Finally we can glimpse into the lives of great citizens among us clinging on to greatness in the midst of tragedy. Amen.
