First time seeing this movie at age 70. Burt Lancaster, Audie Murphy, Lillian Gish and Charles Bickford added excellent acting to this movie. Audrey was not believable in this character. The worst thing about this film is the movie score. It sounded like a European symphony. Lilting and light. It wasn’t dramatic in places where it called for it and didn’t have the majestic western outdoors music like in “The Big Country” with Gregory Peck”. Burt Lancaster was excellent though in his portrayal of a man who could defend his family and who you could lean on and not fall down.
