This film is a what-if riddle, inside an aging hipster’s ramblings, with a thick icing of 60s-period details. It’s far from a great film and some will argue that it’s not even a good film, just a passable story with A-list names.
Brad Pitt once again nails a dimwit character. Leonardo D. is much better, portraying a bad actor. What the hell did Al Pacino stop by for? Pitt’s dog was the only hero and it was cartoonish. The music selections were hit-and-miss.
Is the point that America would have better off without the Manson family? Is that conceit worth an entire movie?
