You may not know much about Bob Booker before you read this book.
You don’t need to have supported Brentford, Sheffield United or Brighton.
But you’ll love the game.
You may not have ever met him. But crikey!
You’ll learn - as I did - an ordinary football fan, how much ‘the journeyman’ footballer (and this one in particular) has to endure to bring us our weekly fix.
And how hard he worked through his career, to deliver us our fix.
This book also delivers with humour and a massive dose of the reality, what we just don’t see behind the scenes. Or after the final whistle.
So Greville delivers this players story wonderfully well.
As for Bob?
Well I confess I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him for a few years now.
But more importantly I’ve been on the receiving end of what this book delivers in spades.
And that is the experience of his dedication, loyalty and above all his kindness. It shines through.
Read it.
The insight into the game from a player’s perspective will give you (like me a fan of the game) a deeper respect for the men we watch week on week out and love.
And you’ll get to realise this guy is a goodun!
Thanks Bob. For everything.
Never realised what you guys put yourselves through.
Loved reading this book.
