Firstly, ignore the 1 star woke-mind, cancel culture brigade who can't see passed how offended they are by acted sex scenes ๐
The reality is this almost played out like a sequel to Frakenstein and even left me wondering whether Dr. Baxter (portrayed by Willem Defoe) was Dr. Frankensteins monster himself!
For those of you familiar, Frankenstein is a take on how society is perceived and learnt. But we don't see much of that in the movies up to Dr. Frankensteins death. Now in Poor Things, the Dr. Tells numerous tales of the things his father use to do to him, which to me sounded very much linked to Dr. Frankensteins experiments on his "monster".
Similarly, Bella is Dr. Baxters creation and unlike in Frankenstein we see the development of the fresh brained, animated dead going out into the world and learning its many horrors for herself.
Sure, there are elements of intended feminism messages sprinkled in but also messages of poverty and careless rich, bullying in academia, violence etc etc.
Overall a good homage to Frankenstein, as the Poor Things book author intended. Originally.
But maybe avoid it if you're easily offended.. aye I'm looking at you with the dyed blue hair, straight cut Fringe n just arrived in the cinema after an afternoon of screaming at strangers on the street. There's probably something rated U or PG that will sit better with ya...
