The montage wouldโve been better suited to a less bleak time in the story... it was off putting and seemed uncharacteristic that Abigail would fixate on that during such a dire life-altering moment. As Iโve sat with the film longer, the more frustrated I am with the decision to make Tallyโs suffering pushed so far to the periphery that it became allusion and poetry rather than honest commentary on the time and the imbalance of power. Vanessa and Katherine gave beautiful performances and the voiceover and music were a pleasing element for me. The visuals were strikingly beautiful. But the message of the film is upsetting; queer peopleโs stories being enveloped in tragedy sends a very toxic message that builds up over time. Having their sex connected to death was very, very troubling. Especially, since the film doesnโt even address directly that her death was the result of domestic violence and abuse.
