I’m not sure why so many Mormons seem so offended… every traditional religion has its extremists. Every traditional religion has some oddities to outsiders. As a non-Mormon, watching this looked to me to be a statement on all organized religion, not Mormonism in particular. And it didn’t make all Mormons look like polygamists. It’s clear that going down the polygamy road was going against concurrent church teachings, but that the church itself was trying to downplay the situation to save its own reputation. How many movies are there about the Catholic Church doing something similar? Or, for instance, what about Midnight Mass - that’s another show that delves into how weird Catholicism can get. I’m a lifelong (only sort of practicing) Catholic and I wasn’t offended at all. It’s spot on. Anyway, I loved this show. I thought the editing was so clever, I liked the acting, and I was not offended on behalf of my many Mormon friends and colleagues. Religion and faith are fascinating human phenomena, and art that delves into that effectively is, to me, always worth consuming.
