My daughter and I sat together excitedly anticipating the new album...
The opening track SKINNY was great but thereafter we just became more and more disappointed. We couldn't believe it so we listened all over again to make sure that it wasn't our ears or mood deceiving us but sadly we really couldn't find the magic present in virtually all of her previous releases.
We felt the music became more and more generic, formulaic and, dare I say it, just bland. We held on until the last track BLUE and were saddened by this version as compared to the gorgeous one that had been posted on YouTube a year ago entitled True Blue. I can't put the link up because it will violate the Google review policy but I'm sure you can find it for yourself.
We have been following Billie since 2017 and have enjoyed so much of her music and watching her grow and develop as an artist on her own terms. To us she is a rare example of a really popular artist that had a strong sense of creative integrity rather than the product of commercial marketing.
We hope she can find her form again but this one really misses the mark.
