As a student of the War Between the States for many years, this is one of the best depictions of the depth of emotions on a personal level of those who were engaged in battle. It is a thinking person's movie. Approaches reality far greater than most in my opinion. If leaping into a garbage truck from a twenty story building, then racing down San Francisco streets at 100 miles an hour with bullets flying through the windshield appeals to you? This doesn't fill the bill. Having two great-grandfathers engaged in that war, and their stories passed down, one in the Union Pa Cavalry, the other in the Battle of Fredericksburg...this movie in my opinion ranks well with others, such as Gettysburg and a few others. If one has an in depth interest in the Civil War this movie is well worth viewing.
