Some decent acting and nice cinematography are marred by the “twist for twist’s sakes” plot that forsakes character depth for mindless action. Not that there’s anything wrong with mindless action, however this one needed something more holding the action together.
The mother – daughter relationship is a contrived and overplayed trope. The supernatural elements of the show, while silly, are not the least plausible facets of this farce, believe it or not. That dubious award goes to the nesting doll like conspiracy inside a conspiracy inside a conspiracy structure of the plot. In the end it just doesn’t make any sense. The ending is the best example of this problematic overdone device.
The best parts are the athletic energetic action sequences, the beautiful scenery in Madrid, and some of the acting, especially the lead. I loved young Jenny, and some of the other minor actors in the flashback sequences did nice jobs with limited screen time. As always the main villain (male, not the older women) was fun.
All in all a waste of time, but not a bad one.
