It might just be me, but just having watched the first episode the writing doesn't have the same quality as the first series. I can't quite put my finger on it but there seems to be mini unnecessary exposition dumps and a lot more filler. As much as I like Timothy Spall, for me he doesn't have the weight that the sadly departed Bernard Hill had in the role of Norfolk. I notice also that we now have black/coloured/mixed race ladies in waiting, with white sisters. Not sure how that works or how there are asian boys in the choir? It shows how much has changed in the nine or ten years since season one, I suppose.
