I'll be honest there is one amazing action scene in this movie. This one scene makes you feel like you are watching the og crow. If the whole movie was like the theater scene it would have 5 stars. It's unfair to judge this film compared to the og film(my favorite film if all time) instead I will judge it as it's own film.
Unfortunately this film attempts to build a deep story with complicated back stories and reasons for things.
However this is executed very poorly and just makes the movie seem like it's written by people that dont understand the subjects they are trying to include. (Self harm, drug abuse, manipulation, ect.)
The movie feels like mostly plot development but you have to bother putting together a bunch of insinuated plot points. Almost never directly telling you why things are the way they are. Unlike the original they try to build Eric and Shelly's relationship infront of you so you feel bad for them. However the relationship doesnt make sense and they clearly do allot of time skipping while showing it. Since it only seems like they knew eachother for 3 days yet shelly is his true love to give everything for.
The movie is missing any and all vibes. It feels like theres only 3 songs in the whole soundtrack. Only one song really gave a scene any vibe or emotion and in my opinion still didnt deliver enough.
I love Bill Skarsgård but if you want the mc to be Mgk cast Mgk for the roll. I feel its no fault to the actor and just bad writting but the whole film seems directed to edgy moody preteens. That would honestly be fine I was a moody preteen when I saw the original cow with Brandon Lee. However they failed to make a good film at the end of the day unlike the og.
The big villian was just stupid and unnecessarily complicated. Instead of Eric and Shelley's deaths being a random act of violence it was a rich man in power who was making deals for the devil basically. It added more layers to the film then it needed and was honestly very bad and forgetable.
The films climax isnt even when Eric faces off with the main villian. That whole scene was so simple compared to what they did with the rest of the film. They give you the best action sequence and scene in the entire movie. Then doesnt bother keeping the same energy after.
There where some positives with this film and I think given a proper script Bill Skarsgård could be a very good crow. Not a fan of mumble rappers but I though he pulled off a good looking new version of the character. Instead all they delivered was the euivalent to Netflix's American version of death note.
