Taxi Driver (1976) reborn. The Scorsese tradition of 70s grit is revived with aplomb. Phoenix delivers an acting masterclass. De Niro's supporting character equally as good. Easily his best performance in years. Assured direction by Phillips, who draws heavily on the film and era noted above, keeps things at peak interest for the totality of the running time.
