25 years in the making and nothing to show for it.
We were promised a space exploration adventure with 1000 planets to explore and while we got the planets, we got nothing else.
Space exploration consists of a few loading screens to initiate a cutscene to then enter space, Aside from the occasional dog fight there is nothing to do in space, you can not experiment with space exploration at all, for example, flying into the sun, flying into planets atmospheres or even near the planets for that matter, all you can do is fight then fast travel to a planet to automatically land.
Ground exploration on the other hand is slightly better but starting from 0 that isn't saying much.
Each time you land on a planet it generates a new area for you to explore and by exploring you have a limited area to walk around looking for caves or loot which are most times recycled on the same planet as well as other planets.
The story is the worst of any Bethesda game I've played to date, there's not a single point of the story that had me wanting to know what happened next or even had me want to finish it.
The dialogue and voice acting, even for a Bethesda game are low, At some point I was sure they reused dialogue from Skyrim and Fallout.
Graphically there are parts of the game that look beautiful but only long enough to take a screenshot, facial expressions on NPC characters are non-existent, NPC's don't react to anything you do, they have no schedule or purpose aside from filling an area for immersion. The character design itself looks as if they took Morrowind characters and remastered them like the GTA trilogy, It's a last gen game in terms of graphics which wouldn't be a problem at all if the game itself made up for it.
Soundtracks are always something I appreciate in a game and it is no exception here, One of the things Bethesda gets right is making background music to fit the scenario and they came through on this game, Some tracks are a bit meh but most of them do what they are made to do.
Bugs in Bethesda games are expected so coming into one expecting a 100% completed game with no faults at all would be unfair so I won't stay on this topic too long, I didn't come across many game-breaking bugs, it is usually just AI doing very unnatural things, I had 3 crashes in the 40/45 hours I played the game but what I will say is games should be released without bugs, especially since tod himself said they spent ages playing the game looking for bugs and what not.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this game as of right now, Wait a year or two, the price will drop and the mod community will save it and make it the game Bethesda clearly can not make,
