Respect is full of music, great talent and story. I enjoyed Respect
from beginning to finish and well into those end screen
story cards about her honors. Aretha Franklin captivated us for many decades with her voice, gutty soulful yet sexy delivery and this movie was a excellent “edge of seat” tribute to her talent and retelling of her first 4 struggling decades or so. Respect left me with unanswered questions: who was the Saturday Night Party rapist? Why didn’t the family probe/learn who their despicable house guest was. Or figure out how those pregnancies were being triggered? How many times did Ms Franklin marry? Did Baptist churches back then condone drinking parishioners drinking alcohol? Grandma raised her kids but what was her story? Aretha’s kidskids what did Aretha’s kids think about the situation and their mother?
My friends and I left the theatre raving about Respect! We loved it, all the actors, especially Ms Hudson. We left singing, happy for Ms Franklin and entirely willing to see Respect again soon! What more could one want of a movie but to walk out with smiles, singing the tunes, asking questions and hoping to see it again soon?
