it isn't often (or ever, really) that i leave a review, but i couldn't resist in this case. i was quite excited to see this movie, and i thought from the trailers that most of the movie's focus would be on the complexity of grief with the added spice of some mystery. unfortunately, that was not what we got.
the script was clunky and didn't roll naturally off any of the actors' tongues, and the acting itself was, to put it kindly, touch-and-go. the plot was scattered, all over the place, and borderline nonsensical. none of the characters depicted were even halfway-likable, nor did you end up caring about them. both of the (living) love interests presented for the main character rang hollow and ridiculous, and i actually rolled my eyes and scoffed in annoyance at the utterly pointless sex scene shoehorned into the movie. (and i generally LIKE well-executed sex scenes in media, to be clear.)
there were a couple of good lines and moments of excellence, of course, but mostly the movie was stumbling, the script was awkward, and ultimately it reads as something written a man trying to be much cleverer and deeper than he actually is. and i'm not the type to be like "oooh, this was written by a MAN!" about a piece of media because it's rarely a big deal, but in this case, this was VERY clearly Written By A ManTM in the worst sense. also... what was WITH all that product placement for Tesla? come on, man. lol.
tl;dr: i'd skip this one until it's on streaming, and then you can reach your own conclusions.
