Penn Badgley Deserved Better
First of all, I have to say, Penn Badgley was absolutely brilliant once again. His portrayal of Joe Goldberg is honestly the best thing about this entire series. No matter how the storylines go, Penn always brings so much depth and complexity to Joeโs character that you just canโt look away. He truly understood this role inside and out, and it shows.
That being said, I enjoyed the earlier seasons way more than this one. I liked a few parts of this season, but overall, the ending felt really weak and rushed. One of my biggest problems was making Bronte the main character. Honestly, her character felt lame, weak, and not very compelling. Her friends were equally annoying, which made a lot of scenes drag and feel pointless.
From a medical perspective too, it made zero sense how Bronte could survive after bleeding so much and still be moving around like nothing happened. Realistically, she would have collapsed or died. The same thing goes for Kate โ her survival made no sense at all. It just wasnโt believable.
And Joe, who is supposed to be incredibly smart, kept getting outsmarted by characters who honestly werenโt even close to his level, especially Bronte. That took away so much tension and made the story feel silly. I really wish the writers had made the ending much stronger and more emotional โ something that forced us to reflect on all the horrible things Joe had done and made us feel for the victims again. Sadly, they missed that opportunity, and the finale ended up feeling flat and forgettable.
But even with all of that, one thing is clear: Penn Badgley carried this entire show on his shoulders. His performance was the only reason I stuck around till the end. Because of Penn, I would honestly rate the show 7/10 โ he deserves all the credit. Without him, the show would have completely fallen apart. Hats off to him for giving everything to this role even when the writing didnโt.
