It so far is pretty good. It’s kind of cheesy at times and unrealistic (but isn’t that what romance is), but it still has good vibes. The books were much more wholesome and for a younger audience, but the show is for an older teenage audience. There were some changes in the show, but nothing crazy drastic and the storyline doesn’t follow the books. It is (as it says in the show) BASED on The Summer I Turned Pretty. The books have more of an innocence to them than the show does. The acting is pretty good. I think if you read the books and love the more innocent coming of age storyline this isn’t for you. Considering the books were in Belly’s eyes, this show gives you a look at the other characters lives, so it isn’t going to be told the same as the books from Belly’s POV. I think though that some of the characters are a little bit altered to fit the targeted viewers now, which gives you slightly different characters from the books. I do wish they kept more with the book than they did in the show, because I was looking foreword to possibly reading/revisiting the book and seeing it on screen. I also liked the lighthearted innocent romance that the books gave me, so I am a little disappointed with the show in that way. I think that’s a personal preference though and that the show does fit teenagers now. It is nice though that the show is different because it makes it so that it isn’t as predictable, but even still I wish they sticked to the book a little bit more. Anways, in short, it is good, but don’t expect it to be just like the books, because it is not. I would give it a 3.4/5. I would also like to add that the show is definitely 15-16+ v. the books that were more for 12-15 year olds.

Some scenes like the balcony one, have excessive kissing and some shots are ridiculous. Some say the acting is bad and the dialogue is trash; I personally believe the acting is decent (7/10) and that the dialogue is easier to understand for people who aren’t over 500 years old. I like the music, it adds a lot to the story and I believed R+J (Hailee and Douglas) have good chemistry. I still have not yet finished the movie, so I can’t say of the rest. I think the reason why people have trouble with the acting is because the mains aren’t as dramatic as I believe in the play they would be. (It depends) Some acting in scenes has its highs and lows, but overall it isn’t bad or “unwatchable.” If you come in with an open heart you will enjoy this, but if you are a Shakespeare Fan (who knows all his plays, wants it written exactly as the play) you may not enjoy it as much. I think it is a perfect adaptation for someone my age (preteen-teen). I strongly encourage you to watch it! I will update when I have finished :)

The A List

This was amazing. The cinematography, the cast, the technology. . .everything. The ending was a bit sudden, but I suppose that is what is fueling me to want to see Dune 2. I would forewarn watchers that the first 30-45 minutes are slow and the characters are almost ‘getting you to know them’ but later on your see the emotion of Paul and how strong he is. I haven’t read the books, but people say it is pretty accurate. I would rate it a 4.5 if I could, but I know it is not a four so I just went with 5, only becuase of the suddenness of the ending (and how the beginning is a bit hard to understand, considering the complexity of the story). I think this has the potential, if we get a sequel, to be the next Star Wars (yes, I know that dune inspired Star Wars, but this new version I think could run as long as it and still have a big following). I am super excited to see how this goes and how the story continues.
