I loved this progamme, in the end. I tried to love it in the beginning because it was so original and because anything with monsters is always fun viewing, in my opinion. And I loved the way they twisted The Brothers Grimm's Fairy tales into a modern day police crime story, which then spirals deeper into a world of monsters and Grimms and Demons- I truly enjoyed this watching this.. but I have to admit, my relationship with this programme was a 'little touch and go' for a while after season 1 and up to season 4.. There were such strong characters like Hank, Renard, Wu, Monroe, Meisner and of course Trouble.. but I just could not shake my feeling of disappointment with the casting of Nick and Juliette- Nick always came across as a pouting teenager especially in any dealing with Renard and not the most convincing hero- sorry that is just my opinion (he reminded of something like an american Harry potter without Hogwarts and glasses and somebody needs to teach him how to act out having a knife dug deep through your hand as you will see in the final episode of season 6 and while on the subject, any emotion that goes beyond opening his eyes a little wider and staring into space or breathing deeply or throwing his head back and screaming. I think he was pretty bad for a lead actor..sorry did not want to say it but there you go). Still, after taking a little break, I returned to watching and was so glad that I did. The way the story really develops from the 4th season on, when all the main characters really click into place and the synergy of characters is greater than any individual here..and the final story involving the devil was such an exciting development, giving you everything you could wish for in a programme- fear, laughter, sadness, excitement, happiness.. I loved it!
I think my favourite episode was the one where the group of Nick's friends were at the hotel celebrating Monroe's birthday and a Wessen (not sure what a wessen is? well..basically .. it is a person with the ability to turn into a monster-or maybe that should be the other way around.. anyway only some people can see the monster within- and there are good and bad Wessen.watch the programme for more on that ;) ) who recognised Nick as the policeman who had arrested his father and secretly 'spikes' the groups champagne with a very strong love potion (yes, I know, it does not sound like revenge). Only Rosalee abstained from drinking on account of her being pregnant, leaving Hank to enjoy two glasses for himself.. more on that in a moment..
The result was everybody falling madly in love with everybody else in the group, causing chaos. Wu fell deeply in love with the waitress, Hank fell deeply in love with... his reflection in the mirror. you have to see him coming out of his room to stop his friends arguing in the corridor only to find a mirror and then start serenading his own reflection with Marvin Gaye's 'lets get it on'. Brilliant!! In reflection, this was a brilliant programme and I will absolutely be adding it to my DVD collection, not perfect but really great fun!!!
