I admit, I'm a little late to the party by adding this review. I have read this book well over 4 times now, and no matter what anybody else says about it, there will be opinions stating that this book is “poor”
Or, “not worth the hype.”
I am here to tell you otherwise.
For four years now this book still holds a special place in my heart. To the point that I don't go a day without thinking about this book. It's always on my mind and remains in a special place in my soul.
The only bad thing about this book is that it ends. And man, how I truly wish it didn't. For this book has been a part of me since the minute I turned the first page. I have grown alongside Achilles and Patroclus. I have lived with them, I was there with them throughout the book. This story is absolutely breathtaking. To the point where when you finish this book, you will simply sit back, take a breath, and say “Wow.” because, how else is there to describe this book? Not in words, that is certain. It remains with you, and it lingers. I have picked up this book and read, and read, and read. As previously stated I have read this book well over four times now, and it will not be my last time picking up this book. Every time this book shadow lingers in the fronts of my mind for too long, I pick it up again if only to relive the ache in my soul. And yes, I might sound a bit cheezy or pathetic. But everyone has their book that they simply find their comfort in.
The Song of Achilles is that book for me.
And I'm proud to state that next year I will have a tattoo on it, if not only to show everyone the effect that this book has imprinted into my being.
I never thought I could love a book as much as I did The Song of Achilles. But here I am. And I hope this review inspires and provides more people with the courage to go and read it. Or not, but either way this book will change you in a way I never thought it could. I loved it, and I'm still in love with it. And I will remain in love with it.
