It's a former shadow of what Overwatch 1 was.
- 6v6 game mode is gone and replaced with the 5v5 -A move made so it was more "E-sports friendly", making it more profitable.
- Some of the heroes have been "balanced", completely ditching their original backstories (e.g. Bastion is no longer a turret, and Orisa is now an aggressor instead of a defender)
- A few mechanics of the game have been removed or altered, to simplify it. e.g Instead of Armour, Shields, and Health behaving differently for each hero, there is now just Health and Armour... With all heroes having access to temporary "over-health" through player skills.
- The removal of Loot-boxes was probably a necessity, but the pay-to-play model means there is very little reason to play the game, unless you fork out $10 every second month for a new battle pass.
- On that topic: The rewards available for players that don't purchase a battlepass, are bland and uninteresting (stickers and sprays). Meaning paying players will always outshine non-paying players.
- And on the topic of paying players: the coins system is heavily skewed to paying players. The value of the in-game coins is so low, you need to play several weeks worth of games, and focus entirely on challenges, to unlock enough coins for even a simple player skin.
I want to say that I hope Blizzard pulls their socks up and fixes this game, but I know they wont'. Blizzard are long-dead - They're now a shell for Activision and Tencent.
Keep your eyes peeled in a year or two when Activision do their well-known party-piece of releasing "Overwatch 1: Remastered" for $80, and totally ruin that game too.
