The races have ruined the show. What made it unique was the stages format which allowed for competition without competitiveness. Each contestant had their own journey which only they were responsible for continuing or ending and which allowed everyone to support every other contestant. This season’s races brought, for the first time, trash-talking, chest-pounding and name-calling that permeates every other me vs you elimination sport. By putting its athletes in head to head competition, ANW has lost the race for my attention.
