3 hours of pure trauma that I will never get back.
Multiple trigger warnings and spoilers before reading this.
Positives:
Top-tier cinematography, spot-on recreations of some of Marylin's most iconic scenes/looks, Ana's acting is to die for, she looks absolutely stunning and perfectly embodies Marylin on some or other level.
Negatives:
The rest. No plot, horrible flow, misuse of black & white vs colour, and the addition of downright offensive material that was not even in the book this ""biopic"" was based upon. For the entirety of the film, this so-called Marylin character is either crying, unnecessarily naked, bleeding, screaming, drugged up, being assaulted, or a combination of the bunch. The creators of this monstrosity got together and said, "How can we make the most fabricated depiction of Marylin's life with added trauma for both her, the viewers and Ana De Armas herself?" And they did precisely that.
This film is a slap in the face to Marylin, everyone she knew, and everyone who adores her. If you have any sliver of dignity or respect I highly suggest not giving the creators of this film a cent of your money as they deserve no validation whatsoever. Even in death, Hollywood will continue to exploit Marylin.
