I’m not usually into film reviews, and honestly, this is my first one but I felt compelled to speak up because I’m genuinely disappointed. As a longtime Tyler Perry fan, I had high hopes for this project, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet my expectations.
What stood out most and not in a good way was the portrayal of the Lieutenant Governor. Her character came across as uncertain, lacking confidence, and unsure of herself. It was frustrating to watch a Black woman in a powerful role be depicted in such a diminished way. I kept hoping her character would evolve maybe by episode 2 or 3, we’d see her reclaim her strength, show her brilliance as a top law student, and stand up to the racists around her. But that moment never came.
On a lighter note, some of the family members were genuinely funny and brought some comic relief. However, it got a bit over the top at times. There should have been more boundaries barging into the Lieutenant Governor’s office like it was a family living room just didn’t sit right, especially considering the seriousness of her position. It made the scenes feel chaotic and unrealistic.
Overall, this one just didn’t land for me.
