I wonted so much to love this film, I've been anticipating seeing it for several months. However, I just couldn't. My biggest criticism - why, why, why did it have to be so long? It caused what should have been a taut, character driven storyline to be a boring slog. It would have been far more effective with 2 hours of running time.
I agree with much of the criticism covered in other comments, so I won't repeat them here. However, a couple of things I did not see mentioned: Brendan Fraser's acting is jarring and over the top. He's only in the movie for 2 minutes near the end, and he makes up for his limited time by completely chewing up the scenery - so unnecessary. Also, I found the camera work disorienting at times. Far too many lengthy closeups of actors, with the camera following them for extended periods, it made me feel dizzy and several times I had to close my eyes. It reminded me of when I got my first camcorder (remember those?) and I made the mistake of following my kids while swinging the focus around between different kids, the dog, the cat, the toy on the floor, back to the kids - not a great viewing experience lol.
