*Light spoilers*
This Columbian production was really captivating. I was entertained throughout the whole series. I have been binge watching a few Columbian produced shows especially on Netflix.
The show had everything. Passion, betrayal, revenge, greed, love, gossip, friendship, family dynamics, and the cruelty and brutality of those times.
The lead actors Emmanuel Esparza (Pedro) and Essined Aponte (Catalina) are such an attractive couple with amazing on screen chemistry. Their scenes were passionate and you could feel the longing, pain and love between them.
Constanza was probably the only character besides Nicuesa who annoyed me. Both were obsessive but Nicuesa took his power and obsession too far.
The show does soften the conquistador Pedro De Heredia and take out some of the true accusations of his cruelty and shady behaviour.
The show focuses a lot on romance and passion.
The uncomfortable true story of colonialism, slavery, and women being used as objects for men is all explored here.
The costumes and set designs are wonderful.
I know some people wanted a different ending but it is pretty much true to the real story.
Not much was known about the real Catalina but there is quite a bit of information about Pedro.
It is worth watching. Some scenes are uncomfortable such as the way captured people, slaves and women are treated.
I would like to see the lead actors, Emmanuel and Essined in another tv series or movie together.
