i never write reviews but i feel like a have to for this movie. First of all its just an amazing movie, and the animation is so good. It’s so refreshing to watch a new animated movie that you can tell has so much heart. They story is really well written and Nimona is such a compelling character. Dispite what some have said i think the themes of suicide were dealt with incredibly delicately and is perfectly acceptable for children. Similarly it was nice to feature queer main characters- especially in a kids movie. As a queer teenager its nice to see that the younger generation is able to have more representation than I did growing up. Which leads to my next reason for writing the review- responding to all of the homophobes writing one star reviews. I was looking at all the reviews for the Oscar nominated animated movies and was genuinely disgusted that almost every single one star review was complaining about “2 men kissing.” It actually ridiculous because I don’t think i’ve ever seen the same hostility to the countless movies which feature a straight couple. If you wrote/agree with any of those types of reviews think about the countless kid movies which have straight people (the little mermaid, cinderella, tangled, etc.) If you never had the same reaction to those couples as you to do Ballister and Ambrosius in this movie- hate to break it to you you’re just homophobic. There is no harm in showing LGBTQ+ people. In fact it’s beneficial to all of the queer children who grow up thinking they are weird by normalizing it. Next time you ant to comment on queer characters or movies for the love of god please think about how hateful your words are.
