This movie was awful and really deserved no stars. It glorified terrorism and the killing of innocent people while caricaturing all those in positions of “authority.” The character that Sean Penn plays was so negatively contrived that I laughed toward the end, thinking “this cannot be serious” - and frankly it wasn’t. He acted like a robot and not a very good one. Leonardo Di Caprio’s character and his sweaty, mumbling acting took away from the whole movie and all the “F” words - they don’t help the script at all when they are uttered hundreds of times. He acts so stupidly and drug crazed you wonder how he actually lived long enough to be in the scenes he was in from the beginning to the end of the film (a 16 year span I believe). Benefit Del Toro was decent but his scenes were mixed with overtly political messages (spoiler: illegal immigration is good). The last 15 minutes of the film were somewhat redemptive, but not nearly enough. Hey if you love anarchy, senseless murder, drug crazed people, hate America and perhaps take some drugs or psychedelics before you go to the film, it may be the best thing you’ve ever seen (NOT). Of course Hollywood loves it and that says enough for me.
