“Come Swing With Us” was of course a slightly disconcerting connection of words when I first heard them from our neighbor of 25+ years. When [Judy] next door came to our door bearing a bottle of Merlot and a book that at first interested me less than the Merlot, she said she would not give it to me until we’d talked and giggled over two glasses of the very good stuff. She surprised me by saying “Come Swing With Us” as she touched my arm. I’d already finished my thought of, “Finally! She must trust me.” I asked, “You mean my husband too, right?” She burst out laughing saying, “How about we read this together before we get ahead of ourselves.” I thought it was some “Swinger” rule book until she handed it to me saying, “This is my first time too.”
I opened it and began to read to myself page by page. Then I couldn’t hold back! I started to read aloud and we both laughed and cackled like the 54 year old hens we are. It was cute and witty and with entendre obvious to grown-ups but it was so sweet! It’s written so perfectly and the innocence of childhood is so preserved that it’s a perfect book to teach a child the alphabet, words and how to read in such a way that the “secret entendre” will not leave any adult bored because you’ll also work so hard to suppress your own laughter! I put it on our family room book shelf with the cover clearly visible. I’ve shared it with family and friends. Boy you can learn a lot of surprising things about dearest friends through the giggles! YES! It belongs in your own book collection!! It will keep you feeling as silly and young again as you’ll allow!
