The cinemaphotography was great. The story line was disjunctive and often confusing and nonsensical. It was apparently an attempt to run several different stories simultaneously, but it ended up causing more confusion and ultimately, disappointment. The acting was mostly medicore, with spatterings of good acting
here or there. You could see how Costner tried to "borrow" from Dances With Wolves, but it came off more as petty theft. At the end, it took a few moments to realize that the coming attractions were suddenly tagged on without any sense of ending the first chapter. Being a huge Dances With Wolves fan, and Costner in general, I really, really, wanted to like this 3 hour movie. We settled down in front of our 85" Samsung TV and booming Yamaha sound system with a big bag of popcorn with the expectation of having another epic DWW's cinematic experience. It was not to be. Hopefully the next chapter is better. Costner is certainly deserving of another chance.
