First time ever writing a movie review. Sigh, what a disappointment.
I loved the first one and the second one, while it didn’t live up the original, wasn’t half bad. This one? Well, this one, the third one, is a flop.
I get wholeheartedly that time has passed and some actors have already died, but wow, I did not expect to miss Toula’s father as much as I did. And what’s worse - I hated what they did with his character. After two movies, one where he wants to marry Maria again, now he has a son he never knew about in Greece? It just doesn’t seem logical to me, seeing how much he loved his wife and family.
For that matter, Paris being put on academic probation doesn’t make sense to me either. All we get told is she partied and that was pretty much it. The family yelled, but they really didn’t meddle as much as they previously did in the other films.
Overall, the film had its kitschy moments and laughs, but it’s one of those films that honestly makes me think… I really hope they stop making these films. They’re already teetering on overstaying their welcome. I really don’t think they can do anything else with this series, unless we speak of Paris and her wedding in the next part, but the question is why? Aristotle is as developed as a newborn baby, which is to say not much, and frankly that’s the entire way this film is portrayed. Brilliant idea for a film, saying goodbye to a main character (Toula’s father), but just awfully executed.
