Having read dozens of Bosch novels, I have expected a certain cadence and detail from Connelly. This one seems a bit rushed, and has a fair amount of what I would consider filler. The characters assembled for the renewed Unsovled Unit are barely fleshed out and seem more like caricatures. Same with the other supporting characters. The first storyline was not compelling, and the secondary one seemed ignored for most of the book, then it quickly led to an unsatisfactory finish. Without giving away the closing incident, my opinion was that it was very uncharacteristic of the Harry Bosch I've been reading about for many years. It was as if the story was written by someone else, who didn't really know Harry.
