Rather disappointed by this extremely disconnected novel . For a start I find the main character, Mary , completely devoid of personality and since she is a constant in this overlong book my lack of empathy or connection with her is problematic. Frank isn’t much better . His initial tragic experience is not followed through in a convincing narrative . Language in the book is uninspiring with an over reliance on one syllable adjectives . The scientific argument and subsequent salvation of the planet is laboured and unconvincing . It’s a very long book and hard work !!
