This movie is not a movie you should watch expecting it to be a "Dead Poets Society", a "Shawshank Redemption", nor is it a "Good Will Hunting" or a School of Rock."
If you're watching this movie expecting it to be some kind of earth shattering movie, you're being obtuse.
This movie is witty, joyful, and introspective. Lex and Superman create great on screen foils, and showing a Man of Steel as fallible helps us to hold our heros to human standards.
This story has been told before, with different versions across cinema. Man choosing to "put one foot in front of the other, even when they don't know what they're doing." I'd encourage skeptics to watch this film again as a stand-alone film. This isn't a superman movie/comic book movie. Its a movie with a story told through superman. I think it does a damn good job of living up to the character without being bound to Superman films of the past.
