I cannot portray adequately the extent to which this film has impacted me, largely emotionally at the time of writing. This film is 1 in a hundred. I really, really and sincerely hope that it does not get lost into the perpetual churning of the media grind and industry. This film is incredible.
I have never cried as much as I have in my life as I did at this film. I have recently gone 18, and I thought I'd maybe had some extra level of stoicism that the average person didn't have, or I just experienced emotions differently as I didn't always get as sad as others at certain pieces of media. But these weren't necessarily tears of sadness, even if they did flow at the sadder points in the film, but just at the beauty of the film, and it's messaging within it.
Movies about standard human life have always hit a spot in my soul, whether if it's due to how much I love history and story telling, or due to how much I believe existance is a truly exceptional thing.
This film is different. It hits that spot, but it hits it moreso than you'd think. If you have played Red Dead Redemption or the sequel of that game, then hopefully you'd know the feeling I'm taking about that those games convey, but not about the action, about life, forgiveness and existence.
This film conveys life, the life of a good man, and the connections and experiences he goes through, all set at the turn of the century when the old world changed and became the new, which I believe was certainly done on purpose, similarly to how it was done in Red Dead Redemption 2 with Arthur Morgan, however this takes place and the main character lives longer than that.
This is a special film. Please, don't watch it if you don't feel in the mood to be moved by a piece of media. Treat this special movie like an artefact, it is a special creation by very talented artists not like another piece of slop with hundreds of millions of dollars funneled into it. It is something that needs to be digested and watched fully, do not go onto your phone, I will understand if you take a break from it by pausing and then going onto your phone for a bit but otherwise for your sake keep it separate.
This is a truly exceptional creation by man, depicting man in a very relatable way. Please go watch it. Those who worked on it deserve a lot.
