I saw this movie because of the brilliance of Peele’s Get Out. However, with Us, I was morbidly disappointed. This has got to be one of the worst movie I’ve ever seen, possibly exacerbated by my high expectations. It started out well, and I was excited when the doppelgänger of the main character showed up; I was hoping for some interesting connection to the event from her childhood. Then it turns out everyone in town has an evil doppelgänger. For what? Did everyone get lost in a house of mirrors as a child? And for whatever reason, there’s no single law enforcement in a town where bodies are lying everywhere. The entire movie is like having a bad and disjointed dream; the kinds that you find hard to narrate to someone when you wake up in the morning because it simply doesn’t make any sense. I continued torturing myself, expecting the end to provide an interesting twist that ties it all together. But nope, it remained a bad, disjointed dream. Whatever message Peele had in this movie went right over my head. Oh, and there are rabbit everywhere.

If you’re not a devout Catholic, I don’t think you’d care about the Conclave - the often tedious process of electing a new Pope. This movie somehow, and surprisingly with all its tediousness and boring ancient practices, manages to captivate my attention through its entirety. The acting was phenomenal and the twist at the end couldn’t have been predicted. I normally wouldn’t watch a movie like this but the recent death of the Pope sort of piqued my interest. I’m glad I saw it.

Lots of action with mediocre acting and sub-par dialogues.
