I started the series--I am well within. It is hard to bring a book to life but, as a mystery series, this is really well done and I do love the main characters--especially Gamache and his immediate detectives. But, so far, the supporting cast (except Ruth) seem rather hollow...and too thin and young compared to my imagination. And Three Pines is very flat. What I have loved about the books is this concept of a village, nestled in the mountains and invisible to the outside world. Covered with snow, deep snow. And FOOD--delicious and gorgeous and sensual meals and bountiful diners. A reminder that nothing can beat our imagination. I will keep watching---I enjoy and appreciate it--but please read the series.
