This was a love story between men. The heterosexual love story as well as the female pilot were superfluous. The obvious efforts to make maverick seem like an underdog were not enough to make me root for him. The dialogue was embarrassingly uninspired. Maverick’s egotistical breaking of rules may have been cute in the 80’s, but not anymore. They must’ve had a Botox tech on staff to keep Tom’s face from wrinkling. His extensive plastic surgery is also ridiculous. That being said, the mission itself was exciting and is really the only reason to watch. I would’ve liked it better if Maverick didn’t insert himself into a position to gain all the glory. Some humility would make his character more likable.
