A lovely film about coming out of a self-destructive fog and into the quiet contemplative life of sobriety, where happenings are unexpected and seemingly small, but give life meaning and joy in observation and pure experience.

I am five minutes in and am absolutely blown away by Christian Bale as usual. His delivery is beautiful. He is an acting genius. When Mike Leigh's actor (can't remember his name) as Superintendent Thayer asks if he has offended, Bale (as Landor) manages to respond with grace and guile and mournfulness all at the same time. Even if I don't care for any other aspect, I will stay for him, however, I also am keen on the palette and tone of the production.

It's a Greek tragedy so don't expect to relate but expect to be fascinated. They are characters in a story playing out a story that teaches us something about human behavior. The Greeks attempted to explain unexplainable deeds/actions/thoughts of people through dramatic narrative. Have you ever seen Don't Look Now? Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie from 1963 in Nicholas Roeg's strange eerie and decidedly unusual "horror film".
