This trilogy was splendidly artful, the story, on the other hand, left much to be desired. I get the point they were making; it’s not about the monsters outside, but the monsters within our humanity. As such, this trilogy was really about internalized philosophies. They attempted to explain those through the lens of religion but failed, miserably. They were visually stunning, but that’s really as far as it goes. I can’t help but wonder if the Japanese versions might have actually been better. The English dialog did not match the sub-titles, which led me to wonder about how the story was conveyed in Japanese. Do watch them but lower your story expectations as you do so. For the record, I am a die hard Godzilla fan. My expectations for this trilogy were very high. I am very disappointed.
