Honestly, you'll see mixed opinions on this game, but from an Xbox player with a 4.8KD, 60%+ WR and level 65 at the time of writing (played the Battlefield series from BFBC2 onwards), the game is genuinely awful.
So let’s go through it:
> Maps are some of the worst in the franchise, 2042 takes that crown, but these are mostly awful for flow across practically all game modes.
> RAMPANT exploits which still haven’t been patched nearly a month into launch, which are killing game modes, maps and vehicles. Is it really that hard to disable a sledgehammer or drone? Like come the F&#K on DICE.
> Gunplay is incredibly inconsistent. You either get good or bad hit reg and that decides the fight. Beta had its issue, but was MILES ahead in how the gunplay felt at times.
> Weapon balance is a complete joke. SMGs and Snipers are KING. Sweetspot mechanic should have died with BF5 rather than rewarding poor players.
> No console / input-based matchmaking – PC players have a rampant advantage on this game. ESPECIALLY, since smoke disables aim-assist on controllers and it’s practically everywhere. Cross-play also seems to induce the most disgusting desync so you will be dying round corners…….a lot.
> On the topic of matchmaking, get used to having bots in your lobbies. There’s so many playlists, the player base and matchmaking logic rarely seem to fill a server full of players. Enjoy having teammates and enemies that just stand there looking for god.
> Takes ages to level up any gun, so best of luck trying different weapons.
> Challenges give you new equipment – if you’re an average player, it’s going to take you months unless you cheese some of the challenges in bot lobbies or the likes.
> Campaign. Crap. Move on.
> Class system means you HAVE to play Support if you have more than room temperature IQ given the power of the class. Assault is a bag of rice now.
> Season 1 patch notes listed a load of fixes, of which practically none were actually included in the patch. #DICE_Moment
Given the absolute abomination that 2042 was, people have wanted a Battlefield game to be somewhat good. There are elements to this game which are good, and most of the above is implementable/fixable over time, but compare this game to the classics when they were patched to a good state? Night and day difference in quality and enjoyment. Clearly needed another 6-8 months to polish, but then you’re looking at the GTA release window next year, impacting BF6 sales.
Honestly cannot wait for CoD because DICE have created a COD Clone without any of the character, enjoyment or charm and it’s utter s&%t as a result. Good luck to the player base that stays, you’re going to need it.
