Spoiler alert! I'm a huge Patterson fan as such I'm working through all his books. This is definitely the worst one yet. The lead character is inexplicably aggressive and defensive from the get-go. In what imagined universe does a midwife become a detective AND an undercover policeman within a matter of hours? The detective is empty window dressing and other characters seemed to have been dropped into the story to drive Lucy's rapidly cycling bipolar disorder. The story itself is painfully cliché - the Russians always seem to trade in stolen classified information, weapons or pilfered babies. Yawn. Finally the narrator is terrible. Why retain a voice actor who cannot for the life of her represent the accent of one of the major characters in the story. For this alone I just couldn't finish. Wasted Audible credit.
