honestly, really disappointed in this show. I had heard such great things about it and have been left mostly wondering why exactly. I will give it credit where credit is due; the animation, fight scenes, attention to illustrative detail, IS indeed commendable. and the idea behind the story and the potential of the characters and the world is also extremely cool and unique! However, that’s my problem with it, it had so much potential and I feel like it is very poorly wasted. The MC is so painfully predictable and annoying to watch, and way too quickly overpowered. there wasn’t much character building to him at all, it was pretty much instant before he was basically a whole new character. One minute he was this little bitch and then within the span of not even two episodes he’s this overpowered, muscly, overconfident cool headed guy. it was pretty cringey to see happen. Looking past even that though, the entire overarching story of the system and the “player” doesn’t make any sense and having been this far into the anime and his power, we should have way more of an idea of what’s going behind the scenes and how he even really got there to begin with. It was also extremely frustrating to see that almost instantly he was more powerful than every other S rank, there was no earning it. They did all this talk talking up these S ranks, just to have the MC blow them completely out of the water the very first time we see him up against them. There’s honestly a lot other things that make this anime pretty hard to digest, but the worst by FAR, was the utter copycat plagiarism of the HxH chimera ant arc. THAT WAS SOOOOO AWFUL. I understand being inspired, or paying tribute, but downright copying 85% of one of the best known arcs in anime history; was AWFUL to see done in a show that had all of the power to be independently creative and inspired. And if they were going to do that, they could have at least done it well…which they didn’t. I really do hope in the following seasons they improve, cause this is just extremely overhyped to me.
